The Take Flight Scholars program is a partnership between Rice University, San Jacinto College, and Lone Star College designed to support high-achieving students, increase their completion of associate’s degrees, expand their access to enriching educational experiences, and facilitate their successful transfer to a four-year degree program.

Started in 2022, the Take Flight program is gaining momentum as it fosters closer relationships among Houston higher education institutions and helps transition hundreds of deserving students to four-year institutions in Houston and beyond.
STEM Pathway program brings over 100 community college students to Rice
The Jack Kent Cooke Foundation awarded Lone Star College student Alexis Lopez its prestigious Cooke Undergraduate Transfer Scholarship. Lopez will receive up to $55,000 per year for up to three years to cover a substantial share of educational expenses.
The Take Flight STEM Pathway, a partnership between Rice University, Lone Star College (LSC) and San Jacinto College (SJC), is building on its efforts to expand education access and increase the number of students who complete STEM degrees.
LSC Honors College students recently participated in the Institute of Biosciences and Bioengineering (IBB) Summer Undergraduate Research Symposium at Rice University, with two of them taking top honors.
The Honors College at Lone Star College offers students like Alejandra Rodriguez a rigorous academic experience that prepares them to attend top four-year institutions. Rodriguez currently attends Rice University.
