Mechanical Engineering (BS) • Duncan College • 3rd year at Rice

Hey, I am Ricardo! This is my third and final year at Rice. Last summer, I interned for Project Management at an industrial piping manufacturer, Piping Technologies and Products, where I learned about design for manufacturability and facilitating project workflow. I found this opportunity through involvement with Rice’s Engineering Alumni program, which I highly recommend interested students check out. I have enjoyed my time at Rice so far, and I am looking forward to making my senior year very memorable.

Some of my history: Before transferring to Rice, I was heavily engaged in Lone Star’s Honors College and its Leadership Program. I also joined Rice’s Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) summer program and loved it, which made me look forward to life at Rice (my research PI, Dr. Wehmeyer, later became my professor for Heat Transfer!). Now, as a transfer student from Lone Star CyFair, I engaged in many new activities that I had longed for: I rode with the Duncan bike team, designed puzzles through the escape room club, learned to rock climb, and connected with a lot of the really welcoming students and professors! Rice has a big Culture Of Care, and there are many opportunities to continue your academic and professional growth here.
