Political Science • McMurtry College • 1st year at Rice

Hello everyone, my name is Ivana Vilchez and I transferred from Lone Star College-Montgomery after graduating with an Associate of Arts. This past summer 2026 I participated in the Humanities Summer Program “What is Evidence?” at Rice University through Take Flight while I was still a student at The Honors College. I am also currently one of the first transfer students to participate in the RISE program. These two experiences exposed me to the significance of preserving culture, value diversity, and understanding our history, especially in a city as diverse as Houston. After Rice, I hope to attend law school and work on cases regarding family law and child welfare. Outside of the classroom, I enjoy watching sit-coms and rom-com movies, share meals, and lock-in at O'Connor! I am always looking forward to connect with community college students who aim to transfer here. Please do not hesitate to reach out!
